P&TLuxembourg, eBRC and Level3 Communications establish Luxembourg as Tier-1 Internet Hub

LUXEMBOURG, May 7, 2008- In the presence of Mr. Jeannot Krecké, Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade, P&TLuxembourg, eBRC and Level3 Communications today announced their commitment to boost the growth of the Content market through their respective investments in network and collocation infrastructure in Luxembourg.

The Luxembourg Government intensified early 2000 its efforts to diversify the national economy, of which the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector is one major pillar. A competitive framework consisting of fiscal and legal advantages has been created to make Luxembourg an attractive place to be for companies in and around Internet based services. This consistent commitment has helped to create a Tier-1 Internet Hub in Luxembourg through the respective efforts of P&T, eBRC and Level3 Communications.

“I am pleased and honored about the initiative of P&TLuxembourg, eBRC and Level3 Communications to set up a Tier-1 Internet Hub in Luxembourg, which is in line with the Government policy of multi-specialization in the field of media, information and communication technologies” said Jeannot Krecké, Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade, adding that “the new centre improves Luxembourg’s competitive advantage and provides new opportunities as a key location for ICT development”.

P&T’s international TERALINK high-bandwidth fibre-optic network has created new opportunities for the ICT sector in Luxembourg. TERALINK ensures the interconnection of business sites for corporate customers as well as ICT and xSP firms, as Internet-, Application- and Network Service Providers, with international networks and datacenters. The TERALINK network and services are especially designed to boost the Internet market and to develop Luxembourg as a major European reliable and secure Internet exchange point, allowing connections up to 40 Gbit/s.

eBRC, with its 3 high-quality datacenters in Luxembourg, has proven to be the leader in collocation facilities and expands its activities in the ICT sector. A 4th datacenter is under construction in order to meet the increasing market demands.

Level3 Communications, a leading international provider of fiber-based communication services, has opened up an Internet Protocol (IP) point of presence (PoP) at the eBRC facility in Windhof. This enables content providers to directly connect to the Level3 network and take advantage of the network scalability and strong portfolio of IP-based services and solutions.

“We are delighted to be able to provide both existing and new customers with Level3 connectivity in Luxembourg today,” said Uwe Nickl, Senior Vice President of Product, Marketing and Strategy for Level3’s European Markets Group. “We continue to work with our customers to make sure we deliver their networking needs, and adding Luxembourg as a market was an obvious development for us. We recognise the value and opportunity in the region and are delighted to be working with P&TLuxembourg and eBRC to open this IP PoP.”
