Telecom Solutions for TV Players II workshop

 

PricewaterhouseCoopers, GMDS, Media Broadcast, Rovi, Eutelsat, Namacar and P&TLuxembourg gather for an exceptional workshop, on Tuesday, 8 december 2009.

P&TLuxembourg took the initiative in initiating a workshop whose subject was: "Telecoms solutions for operators in the audiovisual sector". The assembly was composed of 65 participants from different audiovisual sectors: TV Channels and Bouquet Providers, actors of electronic Program Guide, Content Producers, Managing and Broadcasting Content, Satellite operators, Web TV Players, Government and officials, Telecom Operators.

Mrs Anne MURRATH, Tax Partner by PricewaterhouseCoopers, introduced the workshop on the subject: What makes Luxembourg attractive for Media companies?
Taking into account a favourable tax environment in Luxembourg, Mrs Murrath explained three other major reasons making Luxembourg very attractive for Media companies: excellent infrastructure and connectivity; flexible and welcoming authorities; a skilled workforce.

GMDS: TV distribution via satellite for ethnic and special interest groups
GMDS was represented by Mr. WEEDA, Managing Director at GMDS, who produces TV programs “à la carte”, with, for instance a package of 20 broadcasting TV programs in Farsi. GMDS is a mature player in the field of content distribution planning Luxembourg as its hub for satellite and IPTV distribution.

Media Broadcast: How does the Broadcast NGN offer new solutions for media requirements?
Mr. BUSCH, Head of Product Management BU Networks at Media Broadcast, presented its approach of the future: “The future speaks IP” and described the evolution of existing broadcasting networks to latest technologies.

Rovi: Mr. REESE, Business Development Senior Director, showed a demonstration of the Next Generation guidance for broadcast, broadband and personal content. He gave the assembly a view on what the next generation Guide will look like in terms of appearance, functionality and advantages.

Tooway (Eutelsat Group) was represented by Mr. SEGURA, Head of Sales at Tooway, who made a presentation of New Triple-Play Services – based on KA-SAT Satellite. Mr. Segura described first the elements assembled for customer satellite broadband (KA-SAT spotbeam capacity; Use of technology standardisations in Satellite environment; Easy operation and installation) and then presented the new generation of satellite TV.

Nacamar: Mr. SCHNEPF, Managing Director at Nacamar, confirms with its presentation the current trends in Web TV: the internet traffic doubles every year, supporting by the grow of video. He also defined the others aspects on the video trend, such as the need to get video everywhere, the way to perceive it as a commodity or still the video personalisation: anywhere, anytime, anyhow!

Luc WELTER, Head of Marketing Department by P&TLuxembourg, concludes the workshop by highlighting on Luxembourg as a media enabler, due to the infrastructure in place, such as TERALINK powered by P&TLuxembourg and offering satellite uplink for media players.
